Default 126 MPH and Floating?

Driving today on a four hour trip I was testing the S 2000 on a few nice roads. Twice I was trying to redline 5th and at about 120 mph the car seemed to lift -

1st time I slowed down.

Next, on a different straightaway the same thing, and at about 115-120MPH it began to float, I pressed on the gas and moved it up to 126 MPH, because of a nearing curve, and Floating sensation, I slowed back down.

I have had this sensation in other cars, but usually then I was going over 130

I know I probably should not have been going that fast and do not agree with speeding (in some cases)

The S 2000 will drive at least 155 MPH or more, but what keeps it from that Floating feeling

Any Ideas.

Thanks,
axcilla

aside from my fathers '97 911 turbo S my S2000 is the most planted and confident inspiring car I've driven. I recently hit 152mph and it was dead stable.

axcilla,

Was your top up or down? I believe you need the top up for down force? I have had my car over 135 mph with the top up but never had it over 120 mph with it down

I've been 127 with the top down. Solid as a rock, but I still lost my nerve

I had the top up. It was a wierd sensation it was like a floating sensation. However It was amazing how stable it was, when I began to slow down, I have never felt so much control of an automobile.

There are wind flap type things in the front of your car ( or should be ) black mudflap type things at go infront of each wheel. Someone help me out with a picture here..please
these, to the best of my knowledge are put on the car during PDI by the dealer. They are supposed to improved stability at speed, although many doubted thier effectiveness, it may be indeed true that they work, check and see if they are installed.. if not, chances are that was your problem.. if they are..well then I don't have the foggiest.
My car was perfectly stable wide open..

Axcilla - I'm with you. I've done a few high speed runs - all with the top down. The first one was up to about 124 and the car was SOLID - planted no problems. Well the other week, I was out on a nice stretch with a friend and I was WOT all the way. I was going around a ever-so-slight bend and the car started to float at about 126 (I think). It was definitely there - even my passenger noted it. I backed off after that and haven't been anywhere near that speed since then.

Not likely - see my previous post. I'm sure I have these on my car (cause they're all scratched up from going into my driveway).
