I got horned at today because 1st gear popped out when I launch. I heard this horrible sound, CLANK. The car didn't even roll and I pretty much got confused after that. It took me a while to realize that it was in neutral. Thats how I got horned at. I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. Maybe its because the shift lever wasn't fully in gear. Anyway, I just want to see if anyone has experienced 1st gear popping out on launch.

 

I've had it happen before.. you weren't fully engaged in gear...

It's an awful sound...

It's not tranny fluid..

and no.. it won't cost you some money to fix.. if it happened once, you won't need a new transmission.

 

I agree, it's not tranny fluid.

And getting the TSB done does nothing.

It's just a quirk about the AP2 tranny.

 

It happens sometimes. New transmission fluid is not a fix. However, GM sychromesh (sp??) will help you get into, AND STAY IN, the gear you want. In turn, you will pop out of gear less often.

Popping out of gear is a result of the design flaw of the s2k's transmission.

 

I didn't think it was the tranny fluid either. This is actually the second time. The first time was about 6 or 7 weeks ago. It was early in the morning so it was more of a driver's error rather the machine's. I need to stop taking easy on the shifter.
