couldn't you use an 00-03 tranny on an 04-05 2.2L engine with in a 00-03 s2k and get the same results?

He's running an F22 engine with an F20 ECU. The tranny is not a factor in this particular discussion.

reason he used 04+ tranny is because the gearing is shorter, so a bit better performance than 00-03.

Correct. He could have used his 01 trans, but got a good deal on the 04 unit. Shorter gearing in 1-5, taller in 6th, and carbon syncros.

Are there plans to check retainer condition any time soon? I'm really curious how the internals are holding up after being thrashed a bit

so Bill, this is just stright drop in right? meaning you didn't change any internal parts whatsoever correct? No ti retainers, or better valvesprings, etc.

I doubt retainers will have much of an impact here, I would guess the 2.2 head is the same as the 2.0 head sans cams.

The concern here is the rods and those aren't that easy to inspect.

Yes, it would be. However, for those who track their cars and are interested in whether the newer engine would take 9k long term (which would be really nice), I don't think that this will tell you.

While one can drive hard on the street, I suppose, I certainly would not modify my car this way (since I use it on the track as much as possible) based on testimony from one who explicitly says that his car won't see the track.

On a typical track day, I'll drive at least 200 miles (at least 90 laps), getting to the 8k redline eight or nine times per lap on our local track. That's a lot of thrashing in one day; multiply that by any number of days on the track, and that's a kind of use which nobody can put on the engine on the street (or, at least, anybody who says that they drive like that on the street is, IMO, either stretching the truth by a good deal, or is crazy; in either case, that would not be testimony on which I would base a mod like this, with the cost and risk it entails).

This is an interesting experiment, and may well be enough evidence for people who don't track their car, but like to mod it anyway, to go ahead and do so. Not for me, however.

would the USDM F22C at 11:1 compression ratio be able to sustain the 9krpm more reliablily or the Toda stroker kit at 12:7?

Our stroker kit for the Honda S2000 increases displacement to 2.2 liters. The kit comes TODA high compression forged pistons, NiCr I-Beam rods made from 100% chrome-moly steel for superb strength and durability, and a dynamically balanced crankshaft. The compression ratio is increased to 12.7

Kit Contents
1) Pistons TODA High Compression Forged Piston Kit 12.7 : 1 C/R
2) Crankshaft TODA High Accuracy Dynamically Balanced 90.7mm
3) Connecting Rods TODA NiCr I-Beam section connecting Rods
