Black s2k04 will not need to go to the dealer, because he has a key with it.

If you buy an ECU with no key, you're going to the dealer plain and simple.

If you just buy an 00-01 ecu, no keys. Can you take this ecu to the dealership, by itself, and get keys/keyless entry made?
Then put the ecu in your car, and use the new keys/keyless entry on your car?

joey,
just take the ecu over to the honda dealer on blanding, let them do what they have to do and don't forget to bring every key you want to work with the new ecu with you. I took my 2 reg keys and left my valet key at home so hopefully when I dyno, I'll just need to swap ecus to see the difference

I have read in this forum that 06 ECU is flashable.... this mean that in a few months your idea could be improved

Bc have a look here. Qouting Yflyer

just received my Helm's manual today for my '06. I cannot believe how many parts and systems are different on the '06 -- not just the DBW throttle and advanced airbags. It seems like every page has something unique to the '06. Many systems now interface with the ECU for expanded DTC's, but it also appears that these may not be accessible with aftermarket code readers. Here are a few examples.

- Ignition key circuit is a relay device rather than a simple switch: immmobilizer is a Type IV vs Type II for 00-05: no more taped keys. The immobolizer module itself uses a rolling security code -- the security code no longer resides in the ECU. Wonder if that ends the AP1 AP2 swaps?

- ECU is flash programmable

- Differential has a breather catch box.

- Two coolant temp sensors - one on the engine, one at the bottom of the radiator. Radiator sensor now interfaces with ECU to control fan and to fine tune coolant information - no direct coolant fan switch.

- DBW eliminates idle air valve, secondary air injection, cruise control module and motor

- Added Intake Air Temperature sensor and Absolute Pressure sensor (in addition to MAP sensor)

- Airbags have two impact sensors in front bumper

- Upstream O2 sensor replaced with true Air/fuel ratio sensor

The list goes on

Last I knew, you can't take just the ECU. You need to bring the car, as they need something to plug the PGM tester into.

S2000_Europe, you should add this MY06 info to the "differences" thread that's pinned in UTH, if you haven't done so already.

It really does seem like the 06 is a new beast. It's already been noted that any aftermarket FI goodies are now incompatible with prior years because of the fuel system.

Excellent thread, by the way, folks. Fascinating project.
