The ECU cannot be re-programmed. It can only be swapped out for an earlier one.

If the dealer says they'll warrant any damage stemming from a different ECU, go for it. They'll have to be nuts to do that, though. They're risking several thousand dollars in grenaded engine bits if things go wrong.
Thanks for the feedback.

Although, it surprises me that an ECU cannot be reprogrammed.

Its not that any ECU cannot be re-programmed, its that the S2000's ECU cannot be reprogrammed. The S2000 doesn't use a writeable chip like the RSX (EEPROM) or TSX (flash memory) does.

Since you can't write to it, you can't reprogram it.. The only way to get a new program is to replace the entire chip.

They have replacement engines, 2.0L. Just did one 2 weeks ago.....Why did they give you a 2.2?

That's interesting...Why wouldn't Honda just supply the 2.0L blocks that are used in every other market other than the US? Are the '04+ JDM and EDM 2.0L blocks different than the '00-'03 USDM blocks?

04 onwards blocks have some slight differences to 00-03 but nothing major. But it's the moving bits that make a 2.2L different to a 2L. So I suspect that Superstar has an 04-05 block, but unless a deal was struck and lots of cavaets emptored I highly doubt it is 2.2L.

hmm let me talk to my mechanic tomorrow but im sure he told me that they did not have the 03 block anymore. I can feel more torque with this new motor and also the lights on my rev line are off too could that mean anything?

The butt-dyno is an unreliable beast. Perhaps you are feeling more torque because your car is actually running again.

As for 'lights on rev line', this has nothing to do with the engine. Your redline is set by your ECU. Unless they changed that too you would still be able to rev to 9000rpm even with a 2.2L block. Whether it would survive or not is a point of much debate and the major reason I think you just have a 2L 04 block.

Yes all new blocks from honda come from the same stock, both 2.0L and 2.2L. It's crank/rods that make the 2.2L not the block. The MY00-03 block is no longer in production. If you get a new 2.0L short block, it'll be a M04+ block with 2.0L internals.
This is what woodwork told us back in august.

Makes sense too, they appear to have made changes that impact the oil burning tendency of th engine, why wouldn't you want to leverage that.

That's quite interesting. Did Woodwork give any indication what modifications the new blocks have to eliminate the oil consumption issue?
