Honda S2200 On Way

Secret testing is underway on a more powerful edition of Honda's S2000. Tentatively named the S2200 and set to be unveiled at January's Detroit Motor Show, the newcomer has a 2.2-litre i-VTEC engine producing 250bhp.

If the car is going to be unveiled at a January 2004 show, how can it be released as a 2004 model? The 2004s would go on sale around October 2003, wouldn't they?

What's the iVTEC supposed to do for it? Smooth the transition? It dosen't seem like all that much of a power boost to me.

My theory is that [cringe] they are trying to smooth the VTEC x-over so they can put an automagic tranny in it [/cringe]

I really like that this car is 6-speed only. It would be a shame to have an auto in it.

Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Hopefully it'll still have an 8900+ rpm redline, but now I doubt it.

when honda stroked the NSX from 3l to 3.2l, the redline didnt change. so maybe the redline will be the same for the s2200? if its gonna even be called that...

If this engine is more mod friendly and people like hondata can actually do some computer work on the engine, than the redline will certainly be above 9,000.

stock it will probably be lower, but still in the high 8,000 range.
