2000-2003 vs 2004-2005 cars
As I understand it in 2004 they increased the displacement of the engine from 2.0L to 2.2L and lowered the redline from 9,000 rpm (I'm not sure to what). If this is incorrect please correct me.
Can anyone give me the pros and cons of the new engine? I owned an S2000 briefly before (the 2.0L 9,000 rpm redline model, a 2001) and absolutely loved it. The 9,000 rpm redline made the car. I suspect they made this move to make the car less noisy, less vibration, more mannerly on the street, etc. I don't care about any of that. I loved the car loud and raw. What year should I get?
Also what's better for modifying and after market parts? Turbo's, Superchargers, nitrous and others have crossed my mind more than once...

I don't own a S but a '94 Miata. I have driven an 05 S and a 2000 and I have a slight preference for the earlier edition. The engine note is nastier and it feels rawer.
Also I could not detect "improved shifting" on the newer model.
The plastic window will fade to an opaque brown if it anything like my miata.
If I get an S it will be a 2002 or 2003.
