2002 on order/ how about the tranny?
I put a deposit on a 2002 sebring silver/black at Pompano Honda in South Florida. They said they do not sell over MSRP. (We will see). I am expecting a late November early December delivery. I was wondering if anyone has the scoop on the transmission tweeking Honda has done for this new model year. After reading many of your posts I am concerned about the drive train issues with this fine auto.
Thanks
Thanks
In one of its releases yesterday at hondanews.com, AHM said, "The 2002 S2000 is equipped with an improved transmission for smoother and quieter shifts. The S2000 also has a new high-capacity clutch."
On-sale date is not until November 1, so there's no pricing yet.

Honda is definitely listening. Knowing that they have redone the transmission and clutch is great news!

Bear in mind, that I seriously doubt they "redid" the transmission!
It costs an awful lot of money to redesign a new gearbox that was new only 2 years ago.
My personal guess is they reworked the engagement by milling the gates, and possibly did more to isolate the tranny from the car (how I don't know). Maybe updated the syncros a bit.
Also, my guess about the high capacity clutch is that it either has more material on it, or material made out of something different. I doubt that you will gain any super-significant life or grip increases, unless they strengthened the pressure plate a bit.
When I first got my car I thought the transmission was noisy compared to my Prelude, however I realized I was basically sitting next to it. Aside from that it shifts like every other Honda I've had or driven (CRX, Civic, Accord, Prelude, Integra, NSX).
My concern about the 2002, from the pictures I've seen, is the size of the glass rear window. The car has huge blind spots with the top up. I can't imagine how bad they will be with a smaller rear window!

The updated transmission has been reported to be in the 2002s, but nobody has confirmed what the exact mechanical update is.

Thanks alot for the replies. I am very excited about taking delivery. I have been waiting for two years to be in the financial position to get this car. My wait is almost over!! This board has been a huge source of information for me.
