I had 600 miles and my s2k burned <xxxx > break in oil. I added about 1/3 of a quart of Honda oil in there.

The consensus on this board seems to be that this engine is oil quantity sensitive. Since it redlines at 9000 rpm I agree with that line of thinking. I check the oil at every fuel fill and keep it full even if it's only a 1/4 quart low. Just my .02

I added maybe 1/4 quart at about 450 miles (no VTEC yet, and I've been pretty gentle with her). Now at 569, and I'll be checking it in the morning....

Welp, my answer is gonna be much different that the rest of you that have posted to this thread...get ready...my '02 burned 5 quarts of oil up till my first oil change (7500 miles). I'm just so glad I found out about this website so I would know to check it often.

The answer is simple........

The dealers got their kicks out in the '00 and '01 model years....you know the "last" years of production. No need to run up an '02 as they have already had their fun......just another car now.

Oil consumption is directly related to the sealing of the oil skirt ring and how it is treated during the prescribed 600 mile break in period. No dealer abuse not problem. By the way your "new car" should be delivered with 3-5 miles on it as a standard check vehicle....and 20-25 miles on a QC vehicle. The latter was pulled off the line for additional road tests by Honda's quality folks. Outside these bounderies? Guess someone was just playing...........

I have a '01 model and in the first 7500 miles, I've put in about 3 quarts of oil. After the 7500 mile oil change, I now have 8900 miles and the oil is only down one "x" from the top. I think the major oil consumption stopped, or at least slowed down dramatically. All engines are different, the main thing is to keep checking the oil because once you get in the frame of mind that your car doesn't eat oil, and neglect checking it, it will eat oil - Murphy's law!
