As I understand it, Honda motor Company builds the car with input from Honda Motor Sales USA because they are the "customer". (Ultimately the USA sales arm is the importer/customer.) I heard (don't remember where) that the original agreement was for a two year run. In other words USA only committed to purchase two years. It seems logical that if the factory continues to produce them, USA will continue to import them, but at this time it is not cast in stone.

I remember reading a quote from an Acura executive saying that if Honda built a $150,000 NSX "we wouldn't take it" because they want it around $60,000. This again implies to me that the factory must build what the customer wants, or the customer does not have to import it. For obvious reasons, they usually work together on this, creating the illusion that the two entities are one. As a footnote, it appears the next NSX is headed for the previous scenario, and I noticed that Rich Thomas is gone....

I used to work at the local Honda dealership, as soon as the Pricing/Colors/Production/Factsbook packet arrives I'll put an end to the rumors for everyone, until then, all is speculation. BTW, the owner has his name on the list...again.

I was anxiously awaiting to see if Honduh would give the 02' NSX a facelift as reported...nope. Thus I bought my S2K. There are two rumors floating around about the next NSX: 1) that suggest what you implied about pricing being within the $60K range with a steel body and a mildly tuned V8 derived from the next RL. 2) that hints at making the NSX even more exotic and expensive to combat the coming assault of Nissan and Toyota with their GT-R and 4000GT with hp in excess of 400 ponies on tap. These are good times to live as a Japanes automotive enthusiasts!

I was just at the car show here in st. louis this past weekend. At the Honda booth I specifically asked if this will be the last year. This guy works specifically for honda, not any of the dealers locally. He told me that it'll be around for a while, but definatley for 2002.

I guess we'll all have to wait and see. Seems like nobody's certain.

I think they'll run a typical cycle of at least 4 years. I do think a facelift mid cycle or performance upgrade is possible. I bet there will be a hard top only model in the next year or two thats a few grand less then the convertible.

My 2 cents....
