Default 2003 Accord key+remote conversion???

I managed to get my hands on a 2003 Accord key (the car it belonged to was the victim of a crash test ) with the built-in remote. I didn't drive my S to work today because of rain, so I can't yet verify whether or not the remote will work with our keyless entry controller....but it might not even matter since it appears unlikely that an older style key could be retrofitted into the remote head. I took it apart and took a picture:

Removing the immobilizer was kindof difficult, and I had to do a little cutting to get it out. The main problem with a retrofit is that the metal key blank is molded into the plastic housing, and only goes a few millimeters into the key head. The "shaft" of older Honda keys is the same width as this one, but I doubt the "wave" key blank could be removed and another one inserted while still maintaining the required strength (you don't want the key blank flopping around relative to the head). Here is a pic of the thing put together (pulled that pic from another post):

I will test out the remote transmitter when I get home tonight, just to see if the surgery is even worth it. Would be nice to have them built into one device...but not at the risk of losing the key blank part!

okay - kiss this idea goodbye. i managed to cut the metallic key blank part out of the remote housing, but the S2000 keyless entry module won't recognize this remote....so there is no point in playing around with this anymore. i also tried to program the remote to a 2001 Accord, but it didn't work there either.

hI im from v6accord.com
Some1 told me about this thread.

I was planning on doing the same thing..
for my 02 accord

my question is. have you thought about
comparing the circuitry from the old transmitter
to the ones from this new one?

I didnt expect the remote transmitter to work
and Im assuming the circuitry is more or less
the same as the buttons are in the same locations
as the earlier remote just different sized plastic
buttons.

and as for the retrofitting a older keyblade..
I was thinking of dremeling the head off a old key
and molding it back on there maybe using some
kind of super-glue or something similar.

yeah - my next task is going to be taking the transmitter apart....thing is, i am not well-versed in circuits and stuff like that, so i don't know if i will be able to figure anything out. it might be possible to do a transplant...i just don't know yet.

as for the key part, i was going to cut the plastic head off of the old-style key. that way, i could pull out the immobilizer chip (which should be easy to transplant) and the metal head of the standard key would be exposed. there are other threads here that show what the metal key head looks like, and i think it could be dremeled into a more appropriate shape, and the rest filled in with some sort of epoxy. after closer inspection, the blade of the 2003 key is a little thicker, and the shape of the metal head on teh older key might result in some empty space in the new transmitter head. i think epoxy would work better to fill in the extra space, better than super glue. here is a picture of the metal blade:

we would also have to drill and tap a hole in the blade for the screw, which would give an even better fixation.

while i am not going to pursue this immediately, i do plan to tinker with it a bit more. i should do a search here and at other honda forums to see if anyone has pictures of the inside of the old style remote. its probably easy enough to take apart, but i don't want to destroy it.

Don't waste your time. I discussed this directly with AHM and they said the transmitters and receivers in the S2000 are not compatible with other Honda models. One of their engineers already had the same idea and found out it wouldn't work. Also, the new keys are laser cut and the blanks won't work.
Sure would have been nice, though.
