Carmax had a MY00 for $18,990 and stood firm on the price. I think they claimed the car only had 28,000 miles. They offered to buy my MR2, but said they could only give me in the "low three figures" for it. My car has high miles (daily driver) but it has been well maintained.

Just as an update. The dealer is standing firm at $22,4xx but is "graciously" offering me $2,500 for my MR2 so they would let it go for $19,995 before TTL fees.

if the supply is limited your somewhat at the mercy of the dealer. I would offer 21.5K and tell them take it or leave it.

It looks like $19,9xx is the best this dealer will go. That price would include roughly $2,500 to $2,700 for my 1991 MR2 (high miles but great shape). It would NOT include taxes and title, so the end price would still probably top $20K. I've really been trying to avoid a $380 car payment (already have one thank you).

I have one dealer with a 2004 (silver / red-black) priced at $24,9xx and 24K miles offering me 4K for my car, but I doubt they will come down much on price after that. They also owned up to having to replace the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, because the previous (only) owner was a "clutch rider." I have to wonder if abuser might be a better word for it?

I'm also considering a 2002 with 47K miles. The asking price is just under $19,xxx. We've not even talked trade at all. I may go look at this one over the weekend, but have to admit that the MY03 is really my first choice.

Thanks for all your words of advice. Maybe I graduate to owner sooner rather than later with all your help.
