2003 S2000
Socal Craig -
I agree with you - the Boxster and the S2k are very different cars to drive. I've got the S2k and my wife has a '99 (204hp) Boxster. Haven't driven a Boxster S yet but the handling of the std Boxster is suberb but different from the S2000's "suberb-ness". The S2000 feels "nervous" in a good way, while the Boxster feels almost sedate by comparison. Handling is very very good, but it just feels like it has more safety dialed into it's setup. It's quite fun to own both, as it allows comparison of two very different engineering philosophies. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either again, but the S2000 is just a better match for my particular nervous system.

He also was worried that the engine will break down because of the reving to 8000-9000rpm. He thinks that the car engine won't last long.
As for worrying that the S2000 will break down earlier because of a 9000rpm redline, I don't think so. Honda builds some of the most dependable cars on the road, and I bet that they have factor in reliability in to this engine also. My $0.02

My car had 72km (45 miles) miles on the clock so 12 is no big deal.

Finally, has anyone with an S2000 had an extended drive in a Boxster S? I would like to hear your honest comments and opinions.

I have an S2000, but before I got it I was looking at getting a BoxsterS. So I had a comrehensive drive in a Boxtser S, Boxtser 2.7 as well as Boxster 2.5 as they gave me the keys to all the cars and let me loose (all with 17" or 18" wheels with sport suspension).
Anyway, the main difference between all the Boxsters is power - otherwise they all handle very similar in terms of handling/road feel. That being said - Boxtsers are one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. Looking at the Boxtser S specifically - on first impression it feels a lot quicker then an S2000. Reason is that it pulls like a rocket even from low revs and all the way to the redline. S2000 will stay with it when kept in the powerband (over 6000rpm) but that is not where you spend most of your time. You stay in the 6000+rpm range only when driving it as if you were on the race-track. In everyday-city-driving terms the BoxtserS has a fair bit more acceleration. If you take of from idle then the BoxtserS is a lot quicker then an S2000.
The seats, steering and general egronomics were first rate in the BoxtserS but the S2000 is just as good but you do feel like you sit a touch higher and more upright. Also, the digital dash on the S2000 is an 'aquired taste'. Steering feel is better in the Boxster but the gearbox is better in the S2000.
When it comes to handling then the Boxtser and S2000 are very close in terms uf ultimate abilities, but they feel totally different. Boxster feels much more sure-footed and 'planted' while the S2000 feels a lot more responsive, lighter and adjustable. What that means is that an S2000 feels a lot more like a race-care than a Boxtser and is the closest thing (next to an Elise) to a big go-cart. Though, the Boxtser gives a driver better feedback though the steering-wheel than the S2000.
There you go, I love both S2000 as well as Boxtsers and those are my impressions.

I've driven all the Boxter versions and in addition my best friend has a Boxter S. Its good fun to go for drives with the two cars around here and yes I can keep up very well especially at speed and cornering. If he floors it at the lights while I'm sleeping with the S2000 at idle then I'm toast.
Matt
PS the S2000 gets more looks than the Boxster
