2004 Model Announcement
Although, at first, I couldn't understand why Honda would want to reconstruct perfection, it would be nice if more colors came out , like the japan models. When my ex and I went to by his 2002 sebring silver, I enjoyed the lack of options. It showed Honda's faith in their roadster. About depreciation, thats life. If you all are really such lovers of your car, you would just drive it and enjoy it, not worrying about how much you will get for it when you trade it back in stock condition. The s2000 is something to have fun with. It was not made to be an economical investment. So just feel the pleasure in your s2000's and enjoy!
Humm.............??
Higher RPM? Do you know how much stress are applied on the pistons already at 9000 RPM? (Since it's 4-stroke engine, I guess the pistons goes up and down twice (up 2 and down 2??). That's a lot of strokes per Min.!!!) If you want more RPMs, You need to shorten the strokes; which only gian more Hp but lower the torque. Now do you see why Honda and most Motorcycles rev so high? I'm in for to lighten the car! If you lighten the car, it will require less (energy) torque to move the car from standing still. That's why some of the Super bikes has more than 120Hp,but not even 100 ft/# of torque and still get 3 sec on the 0-60 time. (Look at the Lutos Elise, weighs 1500#, only 140 HP and it can go from 0-60 under 5 sec. But the top speed is under 150MPH, because it doesn't have the Hp, RPM, and gearing to do so. I think they can slap in a 6-speed, but it might take a while to reach 160?) If Honda can lighten the car to 2200# which is about 600# weight saving. Didn't some one mentioned earlier about something like 11.9 # per Hp? Then, that's about 50 Hp gained??? I'm not sure if I'm right, but that's like "2800 lbs" S2000 with 290Hp vs 3000+lbs 350Z with 287 Hp?? Or is it a 2200# S2000 with 240 Hp vs 2200# Miata with 140Hp?
I can tell you this, it does feel faster and handle better with all my spare, tools and truck liners and all the rear panels and center console removed! If Honda can lighten the car and still keep the balance somehow (drop the convertible top motor! and glass, use a bikini top like the Jeep) and implement the i-VTEC techonlogy to gain a little mid-range power and stronger clutch and drive shaft (may be like the Z, to use Carbon compond drive shaft to gain strenght and weight saving). I think the engine is fine at 9000RPM. Okay, make a even 10,000 RPM!
I really don't see any changes will be made until 2005; and even so, it will be a minor change! I think Honda is trying to build on the Truck market (CR-V, Element, Pilot, and MDX)and selling their V6s (to GM-- Saturn) With the new FCX Hydrogen powered fuel Cell viehcle and Hybrids, I really wish Honda can make the car lighter and safer! The Hybrids are just too heavy and too weak in power! They need to make those Ultra Capcitors to generate more than 200 ft/# of torque like on the FCX
and keep their cars around 2000 pounds, not 3000 pounds! (Got to love those CRX! Mine is under 1900 pounds! They shouldbring back the CRX using the "Insight" components and the i-VTEC Si (or Type-R) motors! To creat a fast, light, fuel economy, clean air two seater (hopefully it will be safe too?)
Sorry! Didn't mean to write a book, but it was fun! May be Honda is listening? Bring back the new CRX! And make it convertible? he, he............

850,
FYI, superbikes have in excess of 190hp and about 150ft/lb of torque.
Remember, Hp is a derivative of torque via a mathematical equation. The higher your hp peak as far as rpm's, the less torque you will have. There are a lot of people complaining about the lack of torque in our cars. To fix that with the same amount of HP, you HAVE to lower your rpm @hp peak. Otherwise if you raise the rpm's and don't increase the AMOUNT of HP, your torque will go down. There is nothing you can do about it, it's just physics.
Moto gp bikes have up to 270 hp!!!!! now. They have so much power that they can't get that to the ground, so they de-tune the engines down to 220 hp or so. That way the tires can cope with that and the riders can actually think about applying power in the middle of corners.
just my $.02

rick, I guess I need to catch up with the bike sence.
he, he......... I thought that was what I was trying to say; lower the rpm to create more toque and increased the rpm for more Hp. (I also added that to increase the rpm, it's better to shorten the strokes and just use large broe pistons) But in your short clear words made more sense, I guess? Thanks! I have no idea now the Super bike are creating that much power! I've been away from bikes too long! (But mostly, I like smaller displacement 2-storkes! Some time too much power can be too much to handle like you said that the tire won't even hold the grip!)

With respect to more
s... I know that years ago Mazda rev limited the Wankel engine in the RX-7s because of transmission concerns. The engine could've spin faster, but I guess it was difficult to design a tranny that could deal with it. Maybe it's a materials thing.
Anyway, I like those ideas, Pixsur, but I also agree that not much is likely to happen in the near future. As I said earlier, I don't know what'd be in it for Honda... They don't use the car as hype or anything, so why would they bother. We'll see, in time...

But, If you feel the need to make yourself and the other members feel good about yourselves you go right ahead. Believe me, when they want you to know, you will know.

There's nothing stated anywhere here that this will 100% come true (2004 major changes) by me or anyone else. All I can say is my source (100% correct in the past) says it will definitely happen and in the '04 model! Although I very much trust this source in my mind I feel about 85% it will happen. The only reason I'm only 85% sure is because no one else has been able to provide any further confirmation. If I did not report what I've heard from reliable sources then I would not be doing my part as a participant in this board.
By the way, a glass rr window is a big deal for some.

...OH and here we go with the name calling...
This thread is all about amusing (and occasionally practical) speculation. For anyone here to believe that they find out any information before Honda (or any other applicable company) wants them to know it is simply naive.
Granted, there are always people that find out before the rest of us, but that, too, is intentional. Secrecy is an art...and so is leaking information.

I think you're just pissed because your theory was just proved wrong and although you worked for Honda you still didn't know what the heck was going on. Obviously they didn't want YOU to know.

Do you actually believe what you type? You crack me up. You feel about 85% that it will happen? Did you use some kind of super-cosmic-osmosis-psychic scientific method to come up with that 85% number. Baaaahahahhahaaha
I am very happy for you that you were so moved by the fact that someone let you know about the glass rear window.By the way, I am not laughing with you, I am laughing at you.
Get real this is Honda we are talking about. If you really believe that Honda will redesign the S already you haven't payed attention to history. Bottom line up front: Honda will not redesign the S yet.
BTW slight modifications are always a possiblity, I wouldn'y be at all suprised at the addition of I-Vtec as well as a few other tricks.
