2006 drive by wire question
Does the drive by wire system make the car less of a pure sports car? Is it less fun to drive, than say an 05? Is the throttle tip in to sudden? I test drove an 06, and didn't seem to notice anything. I haven't driven an 05. The reason I ask is that the Infiinti G35 throttle is very touchy. Hopefully my question makes since.
I can't say I noticed much of a difference between my '08 and my friend's '03 in terms of throttle response. Others may disagree. I will say I love my car and I don't think I've seen any complaints from other 08/09/CR owners about the throttle.
Every drive-by-wire system is different. It can be calibrated to all sorts of different throttle position vs. throttle plate openings for whatever conditions.
Nissan likes to calibrate it so that the initial throttle tip-in is really aggressive, so it feels really torque, like a typical domestic vehicle. If you turn off the traction/stability control, it completely changes the throttle mapping and makes it much less touchy.
I found this out when I had a G35 sedan that I tracked. With all the electric nannies on, the slightest throttle tip-in at the apex of a corner would cause the rear to swing wide. Then the stability control would kick in and apply the brakes to the rear wheels to bring it back in. After the first session, I had the rear brakes smoking pretty badly.
Turned off the stability control, and the throttle became much more linear, like a regular throttle cable. Made the car a lot easier to drive.
Uh, in short, it all depends on the calibration.

I can't seem to tell the difference especially when I have the VSA off. I can understand wanting a '05 or earlier models for pure driving experience with no computer aids.(although all you have to do is hold the button to turn the VSA off)
I hope I can get the Flashpro before the Evans Tuning meet.
