I agree with most of the things you stated above. A new S would only need about 280-300hp, about the same weight and handling and only a modest design refresh. I personally think the design of the vehicle is so timeless that they can just tweak the design a-la Porsche.

# S2000 Rarely does a Honda vehicle see two MMCs, but the S2000 was subjected to its second MMC for the 2008 model year, when the CR trim level was added. Rumors concerning the S2000's demise following the 2008 model year have been swirling about but we have confirmed that it will be returning for the 2009 model year. Honda is said to be working on a next-generation sports car to replace the S2000, but at this point we're not expecting to see it until 2010 at the earliest.
Summary: 2009 S2000 will see minimal changes
Watch For: Honda's next-generation Sports Car will replace S2000 in 2010 or 2011, but will it carry forward with the S2000's spirit, or will it be a new concept?
Available: Autumn

That's funny...I just saw a post in Temple of VTEC, search S2000, which had a cover page from a jap auto mag, with a pic of the next S2000, which looked NOTHING like the one depicted at the beginning of this post. There were no details yet, 'cause it was written in japanese!

i would rather keep the power in the 250-260 range but make the vehicle lighter by 150lbs. anytime an NA motor gains power it usually means a gain in displacement and that translates to a gain in curb weight and that would affect the overall feel of the car.

they kept the NSX going what 15 years? I wouldn't expect to see the S2000 canned before 2012
i say make the S like the Ferrari F40, F50, Enzo where they make an anniversary car every 10 years.
They will keep it until it will not pass safety requirements IMO.
I believe the pedestrian safety requirements are due in 2009, so I would expect the hood to rise a few inches. I believe there has to be 4 inches between the engine components and the inside of the hood. I don't believe the current hood meets this. this is why virtually every new car now has that bloated hood look.
They seriously should drop the MSRP to $29,995, since that is what they sell for anyway. This would make window shopping much more favorable with the competition.
