When Honda comes out with a 300-350 hp S2000 that's 2600 lbs and looks a bit more updated I'll finally become an owner.
There will not be a new S2000 by 2009, not even by 2010.
Honda can be so slow without VTEC
Give us a new S2000 with 300bhp RWD from our beloved 2L natural!
Keep it simple, keep it light, keep it nimble, keep it pure.
Amen.

If I wanted a Miata I would have purchased a Miata.
Why take a rather plain looking car like the S and make it look like a Miata, if you are going to upgrade the looks of the S make it look good at least.
I vote for Honda to just leave the S alone, its perfect as-is, yeah, its not a pretty car, but there is plenty of power, its super comfortable for long trips, motor is incredible and the handling is beyond description.
I owned my FIAT 124 Spider for 32 years, I can easily see me owning my S for longer than that (if I live long enough), its that good as-is.

why is everyone so insistent about 300+hp. to achieve that with a n/a motor the displacement would have to grow and what we would get is honda 350-370Z convertible.
i'm still for a completely new version of the F20 or F22 with 250-260hp, aluminum suspension pieces, a more rigid chassis and have it be lighter by 150lbs, offer a dsg tranny and they will sell more than they do now. like i said before regarding the styling it should be an evolution from the current design.

I would say that it is pretty safe to assume that Honda will NEVER put an S on anything but a 2 seat roadster. Think about it, S500,S600,S800,S2000. I agree the current design will live on just like the NSX and then they may discontinue it for awhile and eventually we will see an S2500 or something like that. I would bet that it stays inline 4(although an f20 with an extra cylinder = 2.5 liter I5... that could be cool) and n/a like all of its predecessors.
What was that one 5 cyl car they made for awhile? Legend?

2.5 L * 120 hp/L = 300 hp.
300hp out of a 2.5 L engine is definitely doable from HONDA (especially if they keep the redline at 9k rpm)
Our engines don't reach peak HP until redline.
2 options:
2.0 L Turbo
or
2.5 L N/A (preferred)
If people are going to pay 35K (maybe more with mark-up) for a raw roadster sports car then give us some real power with a high revving engine.

Acura VIGOR was the 5 cyl.
again, what's wrong with 250-260 in a 2.0L or 2.2L that's 150lbs lighter? there will always be faster cars so why the need for all the machismo penis envy horsepower. i'd rather have more than adequate power with light razor sharp handling.

i manage to drive one years ago and the 5cylinder while nice in thinking vibrated lke hell. engine nvh was very un-acura like and that's why it didn't sell to well.

I agree. Honda has something against horsepower. I mean look at the Si. Its 197hp. Mazdaspeed and Cobalt SS has 60more hp for similar cash.
Competing in power, while going N/A is very costly, so I don't see how Honda can make a 260hp Civic SI, and have it be affordable like a Mazdaspeed 3 or Cobalt SS. There's just no way IMO.
The Mazdaspeed 3, and even my Mazdaspeed 6, IMO will not stand up to the test of time regarding reliability and longevity without extra costly repairs like a Honda S2000 or Civic SI. Heck, turbo seal issues are already showing up on those vehicles, along with other problems. IMO, those cars will end up becoming money pits when they get older, whereas Hondas will keep going and going.
Ultimately they choose not to enter the HP war, and in reality they don't have to , because they are one of the most successful companies in a consumer market, which is what makes the most money.
