LOL, you are SO right.

I'd much rather compare the S2000 to the Porsche GT3. At our last Evolution school one of my instructors brought the GT3 she was going to drive in the Nationals. After cutting a hot lap in my S2000 she grined at me and expressed her amazement that my car was even more responsive than her nationally competative Porsche GT3. Now, let's compare the GT3 to the 350Z.

Does ANYONE think it makes any sense (at all) to compare the 350Z to the Porsche GT3?
How does it make any more sense to compare it to the S2000?

Drive them both, and if you can't decide after a test drive, then buy the 350Z. If the S2000 doesn't steal your heart it's probably not the right car for you.
As usual Red-MX5, you bring some sanity to this thread

Why even bother comparing these two cars. One's a pure race-bred, focused, hand-built sports car, built for a special few.

The other is a "sports" car built off a sedan platform, that has a clunky shifter, and weighs about as much as a small house.

I have no problem admitting that NOW the 07 Z is finally faster than the S2000 in a straightline. I also have no problem admitting that on some higher speed/less technical tracks, a 350Z would put up a good challenge to an S2000.

But please, let the comparisons stop there. Anyone who is a true enthusiast and has honestly driven these two cars, would never compare one to the other. I've driven both, and the 350Z carries its weight well, but it will never, ever be a true thrilling sports car in the same vein that an S2000 is. The only excuse I've heard 350Z owners give as to why they never bought an S2000 is because they found the car too impractical. Sorry, but if you want something pure and raw, impractical is part of the package. I didn't buy a sports car so that it would coddle my ass, or because I can stick it in 6th and rely on torque. I bought a sports car because I wanted an involving, satisfying, fun-to-drive EXPERIENCE.

Of course the 350z can vastly improve on its performance each year, because they haven't even tapped into the engines full potenial..

We are talking about a 3.5 litre motor, I believe that an engine that can get a 1:1 HP per litre is coming close to maximizing it's output.

Now take a FACTORY built car that is pushing 240 hp out of 2.0 (or even 2.2) litre motor, that is testimony.

How can honda make it any more faster without crossing the boundry of practical? ie: superchrager

putting in a 3.0 motor would start to cross the line of drag car rather then track orientated machine.

If likeing things that are a little out of the ordinary makes one irrational then we're all in trouble.
