Just don't come out of gear while on cruise control! Cruise control will automatically disengage if you tap the brake pedal or clutch pedal. I haven't experienced it yet, but if you come out of gear without using the clutch I have a feeling the cruise control will continue to rev the engine.

By the way, I come out of gear without the clutch pedal in my Ford Focus all the time. I think of it as kind of an art; how smoothly I can slip out. I've gotten pretty good at it.
