so if you had broken your diff would you feel it really bad?? Would the car still be able to be driven? The reason i ask is because I tried a launch once at a 6k drop and I think I rode my clutch a little bit cuz it smelled like it afterwards for a little bit. The car still drove normal but I got really paranoid and didnt attempt it again.

Im glad you posted this video, do you just drop the clutch at that piont? or do you kind of ride a tad? That is the part Im confused on, I feel like Im going to bog really bad if i dump the clutch. This video made me want those 4.57s really bad
never ride the clutch. the smell you had was burnt clutch from the clutch slipping. this means you didn't dump the clutch fast enough.

and you'd know if you destroyed your diff, because you likely wouldn't be able to drive.

Everyone keeps commenting on "How great the shifting is" in the video.

I'm not discounting your shifting skills because you obviously can select a gear but I saw nothing spectacular about it. You have to shift fast when driving aggressively or you'll bounce off the rev limiter. You actually looked as though you were shifting a bit too hard and trying to force it in gear instead of letting it ease in there. I think your synchro's will pay the price over time if they haven't already. My brother has worn out and ruined all of his synchros in his S2000 ( since replaced) from that same style of hard and forceful shifting that doesn't allow the synchros time to catch up. I'm not hating... just posting my observations. Great videos BTW.
i've probably straightline raced my S2000 more than most on this forum, as well as put over 100,000 combined miles on the 2 S2000's I have owned and never had a single issue.

i'm just curious how you would shift softer yet still at the same speed. when 10ths of a second count, you don't have time to "ease it" into the gear, you know what I mean? and i'm not really slamming it hard, just fast. makes it look like i'm plowing the shifter into the next gear hard with all my might, but I'm not. it's just the speed. it's deceiving.

Hmmmm.... I think the whine is worth it. Looks like I may have to search for someone competent enough to install these. Good videos and good clear information

Good shifting, Wisconsin. It amazes me when people think they're shifting fast when in reality, they don't have a clue. Hopefully, a lot of people will watch this vid and realize how slow they're shifting.

As S2000 owners, we need to represent the cars on the mean streets of America and in order to exploit the full potential of the S2000, you need to drive it hard and fast.
agreed.

Great videos and thank you for posting them!

Wisconsin,
Why did you pick the 4.57 over the 4.77?? If some is good, wouldn't MORE be better?!!?

Thanks,

2 main reasons.

strength, and highway cruising rpm.

the 4.57 are a bit stronger (whether or not it's overkill has yet to be proven)

and at highway speeds, 80mph gives me 5000rpm or so in the 4.57's. the 4.77's put you even higher (around 5400 i think)

So, buying the 4.57 rear gear set was worth the money? I'm asking because I wanted to buy Ricks Gear set. My only reservation is the $700+ cost and the risk that the mechanic I choose will mess my car up.

Lots of variables, like traction, temp, tires, not to mention shifting ability...

but that said, chirping second at least in a AP1 is fairly easy...
