I have to think that the shorter gearing would still get you down the quarter fast enough that it would cancel out the extra shift and give you overall quicker time.
This is an incorrect assumption. These gears "might" cut your acceleration time by about 0.3 to 0.4 seconds over stock gearing from 0 - 60 mph. You "might" cut your acceleration (not to be confused with the overall run, including shifts) during a 1/4 mile run by a little bit more, however, are you that good that you can do that extra shift in less than 1/2 a second?

I really wish someone would post up some times with an ap2 and 4.57's.
It seems everyone is asking everyone else to do this. You have this set-up. Why don't you go do it? Everybody wants to know, but noone wants to do it?

Did you not see the post about someone with 4.77s. He got a WORSE time through the 1/4 mile than before with stock gears. This isn't a function of the gears but rather a function of crappy shifting.

I have only had this setup since March and I do have a very busy home and work life. My 04 S only has 6000 miles on it so that should tell you something. When I do get a chance to drive it, the last thing I want to do is sit in line a a track. However, I am going to do my best to get there and prove this theory wrong. Guess you missed the part where I said I was going to do that? My other problem is that I have zero experience with quarter mile racing, I dont know how well my times would represent the true abilities of this setup.

Best of luck with this and nope, I didn't miss that part. It's just that everyone says they'll "go do it" and noone seems to ever do it or they just don't come back afterwards to tell about it for whatever reason. I believe those reasons may be similar to what you described.

1. Not many people have drag strip experience.
2. Not many S2000 owners have drag strip experience with this car.
3. The S2000 is one of the more difficult cars to launch and the launch is very critical to getting good times.
4. Furthermore, not a lot of people want to launch this car for fear of breaking something.
5. Those who do go to the strip and don't do well, don't want to come back here and talk about it.
6. They don't do well for one or more of the reasons given in #1 thru #4.
7. Not many had the opportunity to run the strip BEFORE and AFTER gear installation. Without the two, it is very hard to tell if the result was due to gears or due to shifting or both.

I can post 1/4 mile time as soon as I get my gears.

Waiting for an email from Rick's which should tell me when he will ship it.

And when I get the gears I will post my stock time and 4.57 time.

Does anyone know what the break-in period is on these gears?
