So this will just be the weekend cruiser? If so, I also say the 03 GPW. I love my CR and all, but if it weren't my autox car first and cruiser second, I would want a real soft top, softer suspension, and a radio.

Your options, I'd say, fit the following situations:
1) Primary autox car. Or weekend cruiser if you think an 03 is too soft, don't really listen to the radio, and/or really want something new with future race potential
2) Building up a dedicated track/autox car or just want to do things on the cheap. Would rather pay a mechanic then have car payments (not that you're looking at a ton of problems, but more likely than a new car).
3) Weekend cruiser. Good balance between new and used car since you know the owner and any problems or quirks
4) ...I can't think of any reason not to own an s2000

number 3, for sure.

if he's as obsessive/eccentric as you say though, i'm not sure how much he will budge on the price, but that is the best option.

yeah not sure if he will budge on price, but I don't think he had an exact price.....I toldhim about one I saw an 01 or 00 at a dealer for 10,600, and I thought it would go for no more than 10,000---

He made sure to tell me he won't let his go for 10,000...

14,15,16,17

I will offer 12 (maybe.....) he might ask 14....compromise...13

He also has a pin stripe on the white kinda like his calling card....maybe painted or decal....i think painted.....otherwise bone stock

I would say option number 3. You definitely know that the car has been taken care of and also well maintained.

No radio or AC that gotta be the worst car ever if its not intended for track use only. Don't think I would stand that myself.
