What's the easiest way to add bluetooth to the factory radio? I have seen a youtube video demostrating how you can open up the factory radio and solder in an adapter onto the circut board. But that's a little too far out of my comfort zone. I've also seen videos of how you can simply plug an adapter into the CD changer port in the back to add an AUX port. Is there an option where you can plug a bluetooth adapter to that port instead?
Just to clairify as well, I don't mean one of those bt fm transmitters you plug into the cigarette lighter outlet. I've tried it and had pretty bad sound quality.
From experience trying to navigate this same issue, I would genuinely recommend getting an aftermarket single DIN radio. Japanese cars came with bad radios back in the day because people would just swap them out anyway, so they were phoned in for the most part. Aftermarket radios have higher wattage output and will genuinely be louder than stock. The radio alone will increase the volume output. You can get one from Blaupunkt which looks period correct. I still have my OEM radio in the closet but the audio difference was so different that it'll end up staying there. It went from sounding barely audible with a stock exhaust to being so loud it'll blow my speakers if I turn the volume up.
There where some devices around for USB Sticks and / or Bluetooth (If i remember correctly) wich plugs into the CD Changer input of the factory radio, but they are sold out. You could maybe found some NOS still online. https://connects2.com/ The OEM radio dosent sound sooo bad, it´s the speakers. Even a budget upgrade will end in decent sound.
I have installed this one: https://blaupunkt.com/de/produkt/stockholm-400-dab/
Wich is not sold in the USA, i belive. Sound is really good and it comes with all the Bells and Whistles.
Problem is to find a DCI wich works and / or last longer than one season. A modifry on is on the way to me, Finges crossed.
I also replaced the factory radio on my 2009 while keeping it stored away like a pack rat. I used Crutchfiledl to find one that fits, first of all. I also wanted one with enough power so I did not need to add an amp. Plus I wanted to adjust the lights to match the car. I got a Sony with bluetooth for streaming and it also has a digital radio with CD player ( I drive a lot of places without cell phone coverage and I have a lot of CDs) all driven by 40 watts. It is a Sony.
I happened to add sound insulation in the doors and I found the stock speakers, which I was thinking about replacing, sounded fine with the new setup.
It depends on what year your car/radio is. If you have a 2006-2009, the link attached plugs in to the CD changer harness on in the trunk. BT is then available on CD1 Track 1.
I can also confirm that the YATOUR BTA-HON2F BT adapter worked perfectly with my 2004 AP2. If you look at the pic, I zip tied it (black box/white lettering) to the original gray harness and also zip tied the factory cover/foam separately if anyone ever wanted to return it to stock.
