Default Aerodynamic theory - exhaust note

Can anyone explain why is that when the air is cold or if you have a higher flow air filter/CAI, the sound of the aftermarket exhuast is more quiet than normal?

Me either, I would think it would be louder if anything with an more airflow. Maybe because the intake is louder, it leads you to think the exhaust is quieter.
