Although the T1R battery is "advertised" as having more cranking amps than the OEM battery, nowhere have I seen it published. It is highly suspect that by nature of its shear physical size, that it will have more CCA than the OEM size of battery (and more importantly, to be able to sustain that amperage for a reasonable length of time).
I've seen these claims published. What they don't trumpet so loudly is that as long as your car turns over in a second or two, you are all right. The sustained/reserve CCA drops very rapidly every second you crank the engine.

If you live in a nice climate like SoCal, it should work great. In Canada... not so great.

The few months I had one of these "compact" batteries, the car worked fine. No doubt, in the warmer climes, it will be also fine.

It turns out the Spoon battery costs $350! Screw that! Looks like it is either the Odyssey or Buddy Club.

Since you are going to buy either above battery, you can sell your OEM battery to other S2000 owner in San Diego. Put it on Southern California Forum, someone would buy it for reasonable price.

I've had very happy times with my Odyssey. But didn't have the opportunity of extreme cold weather use though.

But wouldn't that double your weight and double your cost? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of shaving weight?
yup, but for me the point was that a stock battery wouldn't fit up front. Now, I'll have one up front and another in the trunk. I would go with a single, larger battery, but there's nowhere to put it.

my Hawker PC680 is sitting in storage right now. it couldn't cranked the miata last winter (-20) and i got too scuuured to put it in the s2000 (bigger flywheel, more displacement, etc.)

the orange-ish Odyssey is also a rebadged Hawker (black). I believe the Genesis costs less as well. don't forget to order the SAE posts if you buy it from a motorcycle place...
