I don't mean this as a flame, but I am having a bit of trouble understanding this posting. Could you perhaps rewrite it. I'd like to comment but I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say/ask.

I'm 46, and like many S2000 owners, I'm living my second childhood. I could have bought a car in this price range after I finished college, but like many of us old farts, I found that a house purchase was a wiser investment at the time. I know that many others are different than me, but I wouldn't think of spending this kind of money on a nice car, when I can't even afford a garage to park it in.

Personally, I'd rather see you buy something else. If you wrecked your previous car, the probability is much greater that you'd be at higher risk of crashing your next car as well. And besides not wanting to see my insurance rates go up because somebody else isn't a careful driver, I cringe everytime I see pictures of something as beautiful as an S2000 crumpled up like an accordion.

So if you don't want to drive the same model car as a middle aged guy with a receding hairline and kids older than you, then I suggest you look at other cars.

I'm 52. I had MGs, Triumphs, Fiats & etc when I was in my twenties. I loved driving sportscars, but after I got married they just weren't practical. I needed 4 doors and 4 seats. A number of Honda Accord type cars followed, but my wife and I always knew we'd buy another sportscar.
Now, it is 25 years later and the S2000 stole my heart.

Enough about me, lets talk about you and the S2000. The S is a thrilling car, maybe the most fun to drive car I have ever owned. It is, however, not a car to be taken lightly. Every moment spent driving the S must be taken seriously. It is not a car that forgives nor is it a car that should be in the hands of an inexperienced driver. If you have some experience and will take the car seriously you will be fine, if not don't buy it. You can very easily get into trouble with the S2000.

I for one have no problem with the fact that you are 19 if you use sound judgment while driving the car. You must maintain control of this car at all times, you must never let it control you. You must never let it's potential lead you to take chances that you shouldn't.

You decide. Can you handle it. Maybe, maybe not. Be honest with yourself.

Your other problem, as you stated, is the cost of insurance. Unfortunately, you are at the age that is probably the most expensive in terms of insurance. That the S is a sportscar doesn't help nor does your recent accident. The financial burden of insurance may be so great that you may want to look into other cars. In spite of the fact that the S is a great car, no car is worth the strain an anxiety of strained finances. Make this decision very carefully. Use your head not your heart.

Good luck. Choose wisely. You are 19. There is plenty of time and there will be plenty of cars in your future.

I am 31 and I think you should get the S2000. Being 19 with a S2000, your sex life will increase a couple HP and you will not have to taxi all your friends around, except the good looking chicks. More power too you.
