24, I also don't think you should get an S as you only car. Personally if I had to drive mine everywhere I went, I would not have it. No room, worst of all, the worring from-parking, rain, hell, driving in snow/ice, etc. But it's your money, get what makes you happiest.

I'm an ancient 56 and pay $1000 a year for really good insurance on my S2000, so I'm clearly coming from another place than you are.

However, the chance of you getting into trouble with the S2000 (accidents, tickets, whatever) are far, far greater than with most other cars. The rear-wheel drive, the perfect-up-to-the-limit-then-oops handling of a mid-engine car (engine is behind the front wheels), the sudden burst of power when the engine VTECs, the kinds of tires most of these cars have, and the minimal ground clearance will all cause you problems.

Unless money is no issue to you at all, I suggest that you buy something that is lots of fun but that your insurance company won't penalize you for and keep it three years until the accident clears your record. Get a car with a stick shift to see how you like this experience.

BTW, are you Korean, by any chance?

I don't think he mentioned that he uses the S2K to get ass. What I got from it was more like, "Every little bit helps, including the S2K." I totally agree with the whole not having to lug unwanted passengers around thing.

Anyhow, back on topic. I'm also 19 and I picked up the S2K when I was 18. Hopefully I'll be able to relate to you on a more even level compared to the "old farts". I've found S2ki.com to be one of the most accepting bulletin boards for the younger folks, with the exception of the usual few. Be EXTREMELY careful of the rear wheel drive, it reacts quite differently from front wheel drive cars. Long trips aren't too bad with the car, but you wouldn't be driving a two seater on a long trip, now would you? I use the S2000 as a daily driver in my college life and it usually isn't a problem. I end up riding in another car whenever there's a social occasion. It's actually kind of beneficial at times when you don't want to be the designated driver.

I don't want to rehash what has been said previously but listen to ralper's advice. His post is a great way of evaluating your situation. It's not bad advice coming from someone who you'd consider an "old fart." Also, make sure you aren't giving up more important priorities in order to purchase the car. It will definitely be a burden financially. You're going to have to pay a good amount of money for insurance if they decide to cover you at all along with the monthly finance fees. If you think you're ready, more power to you. If not, slow down and pick up a car that you can worry less about. You still have plenty of time to enjoy nice cars in the future.
