Default Air Box Baffle

Just got my S and noticed the large divider between the left side of the airbox where the inlet is, and the right side where the filter is. Would removing the divider allow for greater airflow, and if so has anyone done this? My only question is why would Honda design it that way? Does the baffle play any role in the temperature of the air inducted?

I believe the baffle reduces intake noise. I have heard of many S2ki'ers removing the baffle to try and squeeze a bit more out of the intake.

I don't believe it would change. The top of the airbox has a directional passage that leads right over that baffle directly into the cone filter.

Probably...but it does make the noise louder.

I would love to see that as well. Is there any reason NOT to cut it out?

The baffle he is talking about is the divider in the middle of the airbox. This baffle is there to catch any water that comes into the airbox accidentally. It is also there to help with noise reduction.

That said, I have dremmeled out the divider and removed the "L" shaped directional passage. You will also see a hole in the lower right rear corner by the filter. This is there for noise reduction as well. I have also covered this up.

I have driven through pretty heavy rain and checked the airbox and there is no water in it. I feel safe running this setup. Also, this is the setup that Spoon has run in the past (with another mod or 2). This setup increases the noise, and as for power, I have no idea. As for now I am going to settle with this until I get the Comptech.

Run some searches and you will find information on this topic.

looks like we have 2 threads going on this topic back to back...oh well....

I've had this done for a while, you really have to be trying to notice the difference in sound with the baffle removed and resonator plugged. It's nothing close to having a CAI or even the top of the airbox removed. I had my airbox uncovered all last winter and enjoy it that way but soon as it warms up you start feeling the car bog BADLY.

And for those that keep asking for pics of this.....

Removed wall

Plugged Resonator

Please no picking on my not yet cleaned up edge

I cut the whole wall out that separates the resonator (effectively increasing the volume of the airbox).

I modified my stock airbox as well. It did not make any noticeable difference to me in sound or performance.
