Default Air Filter

I just got my car a couple of weeks ago. Last week I changed the tranny and rear diff fluids. I looked at the air filter and it needs to be changed also. I just wanted to see if anyone has a comments or recommendations on filters. Should I go with a OEM or something else?

Thanks.

I'd go with an AFE drop-in if you want to retain the factory intake. They flow slightly better than OEM, are cleanable/reusable, and are better quality than K&N.

Also look at replacing the cabin air filter while you're at it (with OEM).

I've been running a Italian made Sprint filter since we had a group buy here way back when. It is washable (reusable which saves money) and does not use oil. It is very similar to an Akimoto Series IV Tunnel Ram racing filter. I had an older Akimoto on my '96 Miata and loved it as well. Same design as the Sprint. You can see the Sprint here in this picture

I don't know if the Sprint is available anywhere these days so here's a link to the Akimoto: http://216.120.227.145/~racings//prod_fr4f...532db25f2bf67cd

Addendum: did a search and found back in group buys in 2003 member Tim Ham (handle was Tims2K but now posts as mptuningUSA) was the source. Might want to PM him to see if these are still available.

I went with K&N, so far so good, sounds mighty nice with the top cover off, sad I could only enjoy it for that one minute before I put it back on <sigh>.
