Amsoil vs Mobil 1
Just switched to Amsoil 10W 30 Turbo formulation, should be good for extreme heat. Too early to tell if there is a difference on MPG and oil consumption, will report when I have some compiled data.

I have this question:
Is there any objective data anywhere evaluating different brands of synthetic motor oil, or is it all marketing hype?
Can you support your choice of a particular brand with any scientific research on the relative merits of that brand over other brands? Or is it just a belief you have that one brand is "better" than another?
Please refer me to the research. Oh, and please don't reference research sponsored by a motor oil company.
In God we trust, all others, bring data.

In 1999 there was an article on the Rennlist (Porsche related web forum). I can't remember the author's name but I remember that he was an expert of sorts and said that oil companies do provide typical inspection data on their oils. This information is available through oil distributors or by writing or calling the company. In his article he looked at six of the most important properties of a motor oil readily available to the public: viscosity, viscosity index, flash point, pour point, percent sulfated ash, and percent zinc. His findings suggested that any API oil was good enough but that some oils, especially synthetic oils, outperformed the majority. Again, he observed that any oil was good enough even under rather severe weather conditions. At that time (remember, this was 1999) Amsoil was one of the top, if not the top performer, but under such extremes as to make one question whether the difference between top rated oils was worth the cost. Of course, I switched to Amsoil so maybe I thought it was
Someone posted those tech specs up of different oils before, I just can't find it.
IF you go to amsoil.com, they have those tech specs on their different oils, pretty impressive. 10W still pours at -65F

Mobil 1 may be questionable, but AMSOIL is absolute crap.
Anyway, if you want real evidence that Mobil 1 is better than AMSOIL just look at each company's own spec sheet and compare things like flash point.

This person says he compares all of the leading oils, but you don't get to see the results, until you buy his book/ebook.
A question for the Amsoil users: how available is this oil and are you using their special oil filter setup (full bypass filter)?
