i do recall reading somewhere that in 01 or 02, the 3rd brakelight was raised slightly to improve visibility to conform to US regulations.

This is my 02. It has a spoiler on it, but you can tell from that picture that the rear led light comes up a bit too...

you're right. I can tell from the pic that it's the same as mine. I guess they made the change starting with the 02's.

while I don't doubt this, I seriously doubt 2mm of extra height makes a difference. Maybe there is some sort of standard height and Honda just fell short by a little bit.

Let's just stick to the story that the my02+ have better downforce in the back
