Default Any info on Warrantech?

Just talked with a rep from this company - appealing feature is that the warranty is based on mileage only, no matter how long it takes to get there, important for me since I only have 3700 miles currently. It is transferrable or they will give you a credit toward new vehicle based on # of miles. For 100K mile warranty, it is $1168, 84K is $1072, 74K is $976, 64K is $864. Website is www.unitedwarranty.com. If anyone has used them and/or know of their rep please pass along some info. Much obliged!!

I would stay away from ANY 3rd party warranty, no matter how good it sounds. Just before moving to GA from CO I bought new late-model cars (an '01 Jetta and an '00 A4) from a reputable dealer. I forked out an extra grand apiece for an extended warranty.

Lo and behold, the A4 develops "lemon-like" qualities, and I find the warranty company moved to the Caymans and declared bankruptcy.

I know nothing about warrantech, but I have a warranty from onesourceautowarranty.com. Haven't made a claim yet, but have heard good things about them. I've heard far more horror stories about the honda extended warranty than the aftermarket ones.

Third party is dangerous!
We owned a mitsubishi with an extended warranty.
When it came time to replace the tranny after 40k miles, the warranty company had gone out of business!!!!!

We had absolutley no recourse. Spent all that money for a warranty that didn't exist when it came time to use it.

Last time I do that!

unless you can analyze a company's financial statements, interview their executives and audit their books annually, i would strongly advise avoiding warranty companies. these companies evaporate faster than your S can get to redline.

Sounds like I'd be better off saving the $. They did say they were in business since '81 but are listed with the BBB only since 2001. Thanks for the info and opinions, guys!
