Yet another extended warranty thread....
OK. I am looking for experience/insight on an API extended warranty. I did a search but only got oil threads (API) and HondaCare info.
The local dealer has a price of $1200 for 7/100k miles if purchased before 12000 miles, 12001-24000 is $100 more and one year less (yes 6/100k).
Antone have any experience with API extended warranty? I have 11,200 miles on the car and haven't had any luck on the net either.
Your help is appreciated.

I would only consider a Honda warranty. Most consumer advocates (Clark Howard included) consider after market warranties worthless. According to my dealer, Honda's own extended warranty is now available up to 42,000. If you don't put a lot of miles on the car, consider a 7yr/75,000 mile policy. Retail $850. While signing the papers for my 03 Pilot the finance manager confided that the dealership made $200 on that policy. He was willing to split the difference with me if I bought the policy for my 00 S2000. Hope this helps.

My honda extended warrantee bump my power/drivetrain coverage to 7 years/140 000kms from 5ys/100 000kms. It also raise comprehensive coverage (bumper to bumper excl. wear parts) to 6 years 120 000kms from 3yrs/60 000kms.
If I don't use the extended warrantee period, I get my money back $1500 CDN.
Yes for all the financial analyst out there, time value of money but small price to pay for basically an insurance on your baby. I would be if I had to pay out of my own pocket for a F20C replacement.

Not being an extended warrantee type of guy (as they're usually just another profit center), I did get it for my S.
Since for me it was a 2nd car, the likelyhood of trouble coming up within the short warrantee time is unlikely (aside from outright defects).
The roadside assistance was another factor (considering flatbedding, et. al.)
I paid $780 when buying the car, $110 per year for that type of insurance coverage on a car w/new/unproven technologies seems logical.

I bought a warranty for my Acura after 100K kms and it was practically useless. I paid $750 for it and never used it once. The one time I needed it, they refused to cover because of some tiny clause that pretty much negates ANY replacement of ANY part. Needless to say, I wasn't happy. I consider them pretty much useless - go with a Honda warranty, if anything. At least then you can go to a "higher authority" if the dealer won't help you later on....

I paid about $800 for a 7/75/0 warranty but I am concerned that it has any value at all. Apparently more than one person have been refused claims because the dealer claimed the car was 'abused' or minor mods invalidated coverage. I would be very cautions about throwing any more money to AHM.

Never never never (did I mention never?) purchase an aftermarket warranty. I had two completely useless personal experiences...the first one I bought with a crappy new 1979 Rabbit and never was able to collect a dime...the second time I got one with a used Mustang I bought. I got the major run-around on every claim, including snotty answers like "the adjuster is at lunch right now" over and over from some phone-answerer back East somewhere. Totally frustrating...they finally told me there were going out of business and their bankruptcy would only allow them to dispense $100 to me. I can't remember the amount of the claim but at least I did not directly pay anything for this useless warranty.
The worst case I know of is a very close friend of mine bought a used Range Rover (despite my screaming objections) then paid $1500 for an aftermarket warranty. He burned a bunch of valves, which is specifically covered by the warranty. They are refusing to pay as they claim (without any evidence and a 5-minute look at the outside of the engine) that it is due to "sludge" which disqualifies the coverage. My friend is suing the warranty company and the broker/dealer who sold it to him (at a nifty profit for sure) so the story is not over.
Only a Honda warranty should be considerd, however since I have had four Honda cars and three Honda motorcycles (my Accord went 300,000 miles) without any mechanical troubles why in the Hell do you need a warranty?
