Default Anybody drive in the rain with the top down?

I did earlier today I was coming home from Las Vegas this afternoon when it happened on the freeway. In Vegas around 10am, it was very sunny and I had put the top down, and also placed on the top cover for my trip back home. About 3/4 of the ride home, it was pure sun, which is very fun! For those that know the I-15 freeway, it was in the mountains where Cajon pass (near Victorville) when it all started. I entered thick clouds all of a sudden, and became dark enough to assume it might rain. I noticed a little drizzle on my windshield, but I just ingorned it because I didn't want to pull over and put the top up (too lazy hehe ) After a few minutes, my windows started getting more wet too, and before I knew it, it was seriously raining! Honestly, I was excited! Its awsome to know that hardly any water entered the cabin since I was going about 75mph on the freeway. Then came a point when it rained a little too hard for me, so I excited and pulled over under the bridge of the freeway to put the top up. Wow, what an experience! Funny thing is, (for those that watched the best motoring videos), I remember that black s2000 in one of the videos driving in the rain also with the top down. Now my car deserves several coats of zaino!

I wonder if TEAM SWIFT members drive when there's a monsoon above them?

Back in 1971, my friend Tweet & I drove from Denver to Chicago in my Corvette convert with the top down for the whole 1000 miles. It was quite a trip, particularly when we ended up rolling through about 100 miles of thunderstorm. We just made it out the front of the storm when we had to stop for gas, but we made it ok w/o getting a drop on us. Of course back then the speed limit through Nebraska was 75 & nobody even thought about bothering you untill you were over 85, so it wasn't too tough to keep the air moving over you. We couldn't hear worth a damn by the time we arrived though.

My God, I'm getting old.

Yup, high speed will keep rain out of the car, no problem.

I find it works better with the windows down; if they're up, water from the windshield wipers travels to the back of the windows, then flies into the back of the cabin. With them down, the water just flies off into space...

By the way, hail is more of a problem.

Well I'm glad hail doesn't occur that often in my area!

Did you install a larger aeroshield to keep the water from coming back in from the rear turbulance?

yup- been there, done that a few times. i almost always have the boot on, so if it rains (usually couple times a year) i get caught. only a minimal amount of rain on the interior as i usually am able to find a place to pull over and also do everything i can not to come to a complete stop until i find a place with a cover (gas station, etc.) to take the boot off and put the top up. as long as you are moving, rain doesnt enter the cabin- and i agree to keep the windows down...

High speed will will keep the rain out, but it will also greatly increase your chances of dying on a rainsoaked road. Just not a very wise thing to do, IMO.
