Didn't they test this on mythbusters and it didn't work?

"Driving a convertible with the top down in the rain at a high speed will ensure that no water can enter the driver compartment.

plausible

The MythBusters first performed several small scale tests, using a model car and a wind tunnel, and found that at higher speeds, a sort of air bubble seemed to form around the driver compartment, giving credence to the myth. In their full scale test, they used an actual convertible as well as a 200 foot rain bar to provide the rain. In a control test, they stopped the convertible in the middle of the rain to put up the top, and the interior was soaked. Then they drove through the rain at 70 mph (113km/hr), and saw that the interior was significantly less wet than the control. Next, they then drove the car through the rain at 90 mph (145km/hr) and saw that the interior was not wet at all. The MythBusters attributed this to the car’s windshield, which served its function as well as creating an air bubble over the interior of the car. However, they decided to declare the myth “plausible, but not recommended” due to the inherent danger of driving at such high speeds on wet roads."

Looks like the s2000 is more efficient at creating this air bubble.

I think the MPH require to prevent a drenching in light rain is 45 MPH

I'm no scientest, but I can play one on this forum...

More vertical windshield = more pronounced air bubble = less speed required to achieve the desired effect.

I've driven in fairly heavy rain, though not a downpour, at 60ish on the freeway and only got wet from the window spit.

It is quite fun to be caught out in a light/medium rain storm with the top down. Windows have to be down IMO to keep the interior as dry as possible. I am tall (6'1'') so the top of my head tends to get a little damp but that is it.

You really do get some crazy looks but that is half the fun of owning a convertible. The harder the rain the faster you have to go but there is a fine line between having a good time and being dangerous.

Top Gear Top Tip: RainX your windshield. In all but the heaviest rains anything over 45mph is more than enough to simply bead the water up and have it shoot off of the windshield.

i did this a lot in my 1st generation Miata.
it worked great with windows up.
80km/h was more than enough.
just very little spary getting from behind due to turbulence or etc.
i put a baceball cap to keep the head dry.

with my next 3rd generation Miata it wrked much worse.

with the S i still didn't have a chance for that but i'm glad to hear that ti works good
