I can understand how a beep could help if you if your eyes are on the road, but if the shift light is near the tac couldn't you just look at the tach? The only cool thing would be a heads up display shift light.
I think you should wait until you get the car to see if you need a shift light. It's easy to listen to the engine sound and you get a feel of what it sounds like at 8K.

I used to hit the rev limiter a lot, but after I got Modifry's shift beeper, not once!! This is one of the best little mods around. And like Xviper says, the beep is pretty loud too. I have some video of it in action if anyone wants to see (or hear it)...
