Anyone disappointed with their S2k?

I have been toying with the idea of buying an S2000 recently. I need a car that is going to be fairly reliable, and not boring as hell to drive, while my wife goes back to school.

I have owned quite a few high whp subaru's, evo, and a whole slew of other cars, but need something that is not going to bleed me dry, while my wife is in school.

I had never driven an S2k, so last night I went down to a local Lexus dealer that had an 07 on the lot, to take it out for a spin.

The car felt pretty nimble and tight, but once I got it out on the highway, I was surprised how gutless it felt. I wasn't expecting a tq monster, but I have to say I really expected more. It just lacked punch, and it really felt bogged down, and seemed to accelerate pretty damn slowly.

The salesman was with me, so I wasn't able to really wring it out, but still getting up to 6500-7, and shifting in a fairly quick manner, left me a bit un-impressed.

That said for the most part most stock cars give me a feeling of disappointment, and there is not a car in this world, I wouldn't mod in some way.

I guess what I am wondering is, if anyone else was disappointed with their first driving experience, and came to fall in love with the S2k the more they drove it? Did maybe the handling, or just fun factor make up for the lack of power, and change the experience for you? Maybe it took a few mods to make you happy with it?

I can see how with a SC, or turbo, it would be a fun little car.

Thanks for any constructive feedback.
I had an 06 STI, which I miss. I enjoyed the S after my first test drive, but I was specifically looking for a convertible. The power totally sucks, but the handling and the topdown aspect sold me on it, which is why I ended up buying two of them (first Hondas I ever owned too LOL).

Can someone go to the NASCAR forums and say that American cars suck?

I suspect we'd be chased off with iShotguns and threats of eLynches.

****UPDATE****

Well I just got home from driving the CR, and had a few thoughts.

Today went much different then my last test drive. I got to really put it through its paces, and was pleasantly surprised. The car was still a bit lack luster in the power dept, but definitely has enough to get my ass into trouble. lol The other positives made up for it.

I got to take some on/off ramps, row it through the gears shifting at 8k, and generally drive the car like I would if I owned it. I can say I was happily surprised that "OMG this is fun" element, that I was missing on that last ride, was present for the entire ride today.

It was previously stated that shifting in the upper RPM's, provides a great feel, and I felt exactly that. Shifting at 8k, aggressively, the trans felt unbelievably smooth. The car just shot out of every shift, with some "ooomph"

The car I drove the other day must need a gear oil change, or have some other(maybe syncro) issues, because it felt notchy and generally like shit everywhere, and even had a slight 3rd gear grind. This one felt flawless.

There was quite a few instance where my wife was bracing on and saying "holy shit" or "JEEZ Dave"..LOL. Like a quick flick of the wheel, to make a 2 lane change to for an off ramp.

On the way home, I was actually wishing I was still in the S2k..haha

I can happily say this car will fit the bill perfectly for what I want it for.

Now my dilemma.. I loved the CR. I really am a big fan of the cloth interior vs leather, amongst other things. The one thing that is hanging me up, is the lack of the soft top option. While I will have a hard top either way, the option for the soft top is nice..

Nice! Yeah my first test drive I was shocked at how slow the car was!! I had a 300+whp/tq DSM so was much faster than the s2k. I liked pretty much everything else about it however! Still 3 years later I love driving pretty much anywhere in it!
The powerband does get annoying even being supercharged. Just having to really rev it up stop light to stop light get's tiring imo. mini vans and suv's easily take off and I sound like I am trying to race them along side as I rev up to 5k just to get going lol.
I still can't find another car anywhere in the price range I would rather have though. Just wish it had a different type of powerband sometimes. Loved the powerband of my DSM!

I know what you mean. I felt like I was racing a lady in a minivan from a stop light, so I can get over a lane.

I spent a lot of time, just buzzing around at 5500-6k rpm..

Glad you liked it.

We look forward to having you on here. The CR seats are my preference as well.

You can always buy a soft top mechanism and all that down the line and install it on a CR yourself if you wanted to IIRC.

Cronic, If I was local, I'd gut my softtop frame and install it into your CR just for your hardtop. I'm willing to bet theres someone local that'd do that for you too lol

Thanks-

Sounds like a lot of BS.. I would probably just live with it. It isn't a big deal I guess.

I don't want to lose the hardtop. I love the hardtop.
