Again, as said in other threads where the "fairer sex" complains about something car related... it sounds like the issue is the **** in the passenger seat.. not the car.

Now if it were a gutted wanna-be race car with a 3 foot wing and hellaflushed on wheels that were designed for another car.. ok, yes.

This is why I kept my car stock. If it's a street car I don't see why anyone would want an exhaust system that makes the car unpleasant to drive.
There's exhausts which aren't obnoxious but don't sound like a muted hoover as the stock system does.

I wouldn't say embarrassed but having a loud exhaust does attract attention and can get quiet annoying. I recently went back to the stock exhaust after having a loud exhaust pretty much for 7 years, and I'm loving it. You can really get on it with out people looking like WTF are you doing or thinking that your trying to race them.

On a side note: One feature that I absolutely love about my C6 vette is the NPP exhaust. I have an exhaust controller and can make it quiet or loud with a touch of a button. Best of both worlds!

Ehh.. I'm odd in that I enjoy the attention if people look at me for having a loud exhaust,
But the problem is, the attention is negative... noone looks at your car and says "wow, that sounds good..." they are saying, omg, what an a--hole, that car sounds like sh*t"

Sucks for you guys,

I constantly get compliments, a number of them similar to "That sounds like an exotic" including compliments from... wait for it.... cops.

All depends on the exhaust. A lot of the cheaper, or even more expensive singles people run just sound plain bad lol.
Heard lots of people with the megan single and invidia duals and man they just sound horrible lol.
I have also heard plenty that sound great. I have the HKS sounds great. Sounded better when I was NA but with the supercharger still sounds great. A little louder now but still a nice note. Had a Harley rider compliment the sound of my exhaust haha.

If anyone ask me why my car is loud or something, i simply tell them its about quality of life, and if having a loud, rough car makes me happy then, why not?

Kinda know where op is going with this. When I had my rsx my exhaust was pretty quiet (tanabe) but after going the a bone stock S I really like the quietness. I only want that loud performance sound when I step on in. Thats why Im modding mine a little different this time.
