i did my controlled study 4 years ago comparing stock air box, without air box and insulated box. a remote temepature probe was jamed between the leaflets in the filter to measure temperature at filter. the highest temperature was obtained without filter box. the stock box gave very high temperature, 130's-140's if i remember correctly. with double insulation inside and outside filter box. the filter temperature was in the 90's which was about 20 degrees higher than ambient temperature. double insulation definitely helped to control filter cooling, but whether it made any significant performance in this car was unclear to me. i continued the testing for almost a month during my daily 30 minute commute. for the duration of the trip, the temperature stayed ~ 20 degrees F above ambient temperature.

Dieselpilot1969---where did you find your "snorkel" that connects the box intake to the fender well? I've been looking for something like that to get better/cooler air flow and keep the stock air box. Can you tell any difference since you installed it?
thanks

Get more air TO your stock box with an Alex duct.

The intake snorkle, I designed myself. Brings in a lot of cooler air from outside.

DP---Wow--nice work--if you ever decide to make any more, I'll buy one (and looking at how well it looks like it's made, I'd bet a few others would too!)
thanks
