I love both equally and each has its own charm. The key thing is both share the same "DNA" are a very much one and the same.

Hopefully Uehera san's comment will at least prevent some folks on this forum, especially that retard "toofast4yall" from harping about how the AP2 is a "wussied" "watered-down" version of the original.

I will forever regret not going to this meet, and really hope that Backcracker and others can find it in their good hearts to put on a similar meet for folks on the east coast - possibly at Honda's plant or R&D facility in Ohio.

If he said AP1 it would just mean Honda made a mistake. Honda never makes mistakes.
That's right and the ap1/ap2 war has officially ended!!!

We have a winner and it is the "AP2"

Congrats on meeting the "man".

My thoughts to your question:

The question about the AP2 or AP1 would obviously have a bais answer due to the fact that the AP2 being on the market still. Honda isn't making any new sales from the AP1, even if deep down that he were to beleive the AP1 is the better car (which I think he does, he designed it, the AP2 was spawned due to consumer grips and demands that the car was too twitchy, not enough torque, etc...), he wouldn't want to say it.
Think about it.

The beauty of the S2000 is that it is available in these different trims and setups to meet the needs of each individual owner.
Personally, I love the 9k redline.
The AP2 has nice cosmetic updates and feels more confortable if driven for daily driving.

But on the track, the AP1s snug fit and high reving redline compared to the AP2 delivers a more race inspired feel to it.

LOL -****ing great. Isn't this guy retiring - so wouldn't that make the argument that "unlike Mr. K, he doesn't want to be hated by Honda" irrelevant. Hes got his $$ - if he loved the AP1 why wouldnt he say so?

We've never debated which AP Shigeru Uehara prefers, and its not really a debate since he told us he prefers the AP2 anyway.

I may be way off, but i always thought newer cars were suppose to be better. why would they downgrade.
It all depends how you look at it. To many people the AP2 changes are an upgrade because the AP1 was just too hard-edged for them, but that doesn't mean it's a better sportcar in terms of performance. We all know the AP2 was softened up to make the car appeal to a larger number of people because Honda wanted keep sales going/growing, and they assumed most of the hardcore (Honda) enthusiasts had already purhcased their cars. It's even more obvious now that many of the "new and improved" features on the CR were already present in the AP1 (but didn't make it to the AP2).
