The important phrase is:

Any such device or mechanism may be taken by the arresting officer if needed as evidence

I am under the impression that the arresting officer determines if it is needed.

Maybe I still dont understand but how does a cop know you have one?
What if a you are driving next to another car and u pass a cop and he gets a signal,
how does he know which car to pull?

And what if you dont have one, and the car next to you does, and the cop pulls you over and rips apart your car swearing up and down that you have one?

Wouldnt that suck!!!!

I hate Virginia for being the most anal state 2nd to Cali!!!!!!!!!

Jeez - don't they have any REAL criminals to worry about ? Talk about being petty and wasting the public's money !
I seriously hope the UK doesn't start using them.

cops don't want to be disturbed when eating their donuts. j/k yes, I do think some cops are lazy. And there are times, I don't want to meet a cop. Have you watched "Training Day" or "The Shield"?

In the future, there's a possibility driving will be boring and will require no input from the driver- something that scientists in California have already suceeded in. I hope their plan doesn't come true in the future.

What's next, a car doing stunts by itself in a Hollywood movie? or an advanced Honda "Asimo" robot doing stunts?

If you turn off your detectors whilst in Virginia, would that emmit any signals that could be picked up? No, I thought so.

DR. Jekyll, haven't watched those movies, but I know what you mean. You're right about driving becomming boring, too.
My concern is that, in the UK anyway, they are trying to make money rather than dull down driving or save lives. Cameras etc are placed where they will maximise revenue rather than accident blackspots. The abuse has been so bad with concealed cameras etc that the courts have actually ruled against the police (virtually unheard of) and made them paint cameras a bright colour.

Thanks to E Ticket - - - answers all questions about where
radar detectors are illegal. Didn't know CT repealed their
ban on radar detectors.
