I installed an SR-1 on my S2000, then took it off and put on the SR-X when they came out. I did NOT have to remove the bumper but mounting the receiver and the laser shifters (SR-X only) to the grill bars is the trickiest part because you are working in tight quarters but it can be done if you are at all handy with tools. Very happy with the unit.

As for purchasing, check the Escort web site for authorized dealers and then start calling! You will eventually find someone who will sell you one. Expect to pay about $550 and $650 for SR-1 and SR-X respectively.

I would like to know how a cop could possibly locate my detector! My K40 is installed behind the front and rear bumpers and the controls are indistinguishable from the stock ones on the car! I guess if he took the time to partially disassemble my car!!

Well, wouldn't it be a bummer if they confiscated the whole car for a more detailed examination at the station?

I could understand the cop finding the signal from your car, if you were the only one on the road in the middle of the night. But if you are around other cars how could he single you out?

If he pulls you and cant find the radar detector, can they take your vehicle to the station to have it checked out even more?

Just curious................., oh, and watch out for them cause they will pull you over just becaus they are jealous that they dont have an S too k.

Go to www.speedzones.com . They have a good report on which model radar detectors are immune to the detector detectors VG1-2 and otherwise. Funny thing is, I did not see one radar detector that was invisible to both, it was either one or the other.

Luckily, I need not worry about detection since it's legal here..

If they were illegal.. you couldn't buy 'em at Circuit City, Best Buy, Brandsmart... etc. You get the point.

About 12 years ago I got a ticket for having a radar detector in VA. I was just passing through from TN to NY and forgot to turn it off. Went right by a trooper without thinking about it. He pulled out and worked his way in the left lane past our group about four vehicles. When he got to me on came the lights. He asked to see my detector, the unit was installed (kind of like a K40) and he didn't mention whether he would have confiscated it otherwise.
