I couldn't agree more. But you have to remember, we're living in an ugly age right now. Not much of anything in our culture is graceful, subtle, or sophisticated - from music to art. It's all lowest common demoninator stuff, and "in your face" as much as possible.

Especially on the music front. I'm getting sick and tired of all this "sampled" crap (well, at least in Hip-Hop and R&B any way). Does anyone play instruments any more?
Oh well.......

While I'm sure the use of peer-to-peer sharing has affected CD sales, the music industry might want to look at the music.
but at the same time I am guilty of the whole file sharing thing....and this is mostly due to the amount of crap that is out there. Why should I spend $12-$15 (or more on a CD) when there are 2, maybe 3 good songs (if you're lucky) on the whole damn CD? (This may spark a whole 'nother topic). I love music but I think have purchased 2 to 3 CDs in the last year and a half. As far as cars I think we are at: 50% good stuff, 50% crap. I think the good stuff number would be higher if we could get rid of the Monster SUV and Wierd Shape Truck/Van (not sure what to call them) markets.
Looks like my 2 cents has gone up to a quarter.

Take a look at the front cover of Road & Track, January 1998, when the yellow Honda SSX appeared. These so-called spy photos show an S2000 with an ugly front end. Thank goodness it didn't make it into production! Concepts and prototypes are just that. It's always been like that; pick up a Popular Mechanics from the '50s, '60s, etc. and enjoy more wierd crap. But then sometime they get it right... for example, the Pontiac Soltis (spelling?) last year looked damn good to me. But, in general I do agree the Breadbox and Tank concepts certainly lack the dazzel of the Italian's, who sometimes get it right.

Interesting view point. My thought is so many people seem to be just numbers at work (where most people spend the majority of their awake time), that they are looking the Great Escape or the Great Attention Getter. However, they don't view car's with a loving artistic eye but rather like their buying Nikes... I want what's popular even if it looks stupid. And, the worse it looks, the more hip it is. As I sit looking at a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe model on my desk, I wonder how we could have gotten so far of course sometimes. But, look at the new Z4...... Jezzzzzzzzz. What were they thinking!

I think that the "lowest common denominator" might have something to do with the "broadest sales appeal".
