average life expectancy of the clutch
seems like some people needed new clutches within the first few thousand miles of their cars' lives. i owned 4 manual transmission cars in the past and never had to replace clutches for at least 50000 miles. i rarely lunched my cars above 4500 rpm, o/w i drove very aggressively. i am just curious how long the stock clutch lasts on the average. please post the mileage when you had to have it replaced. thanx.

Search other posts - some autocrossers have done hundreds of drop clutch launches and their clutches are still ok - it's really all about driving style in terms of how you use the clutch. Some people downshift to slow down but don't rev match the downshifts - this can kill clutches too.

I had 150,000 miles on my '87 Integra and plenty of the original clutch still left when I traded for a '97.
Some S2K owners take great pleasure in frequent VTEC clutch drops and then wonder why they smell burning clutch material- I expect my S2000 clutch to last as long as my Integra, perhaps longer.

I have been running on my second clutch for a year after the tranny TSB. The replacement clutch is still like new and I expect it to last for at least another 50K miles.
The original clutch was noisy and very easy to spin/cook. It was replaced at 8500 miles.
I have been driving high performance manual transmission cars since 1969 and this is the very first clutch that I have had to replace.
But I still love this car!

Likewise, all other manual transmission cars I have owned had clutches that lasted anywhere from 50K to 80K and I never rev matched and used the clutch to slow the car. Unfortunately, most of the cars didn't have much power to speak of, tho I did drive aggressively (or tried to, anyway).
I have a little over 12K on my honda OEM clutch now and it seems fine right now. I have, however, experienced clutch slip and not when doing a high rpm drop, but when applying power from a rolling start. I have done several high rpm standing starts and never had the clutch slip or smell (maybe once, but I don't remember for sure).
The clutch has been fine for the last couple thousand miles, but based on previous experience, who knows how long it will last? Seems to be a real crap shoot with this car.
