The only thing a lawyer could do is get you out of the ticket. As far as the cop, you would have to prove that he was not acting in good faith when he gave you the ticket...good luck with that.

Finally, accidents are traumatic...yes I have been in a few bad ones. I was never cited for the ones that were my fault...god only knows why. But to claim that you are unable to work and losing thousands of dollars over a stupid "Basic Rule" ticket...come on. Fight it or pay it but don't claim that your life is temporarily ruined because of a lousy ticket. Losing thousands of dollars because you supposedly can't work due to this ticket is an overly dramatic sob story.

Flame me as you will, but again I have been in some pretty bad accidents (some my fault, some not) where other people were hurt and so was I. Life goes on and so must you, learn from it and be strong.

Flawless logic.

Because we'd like people to learn from others mistakes:

Cheap A$$ = bald tires = Accident in rain = sucky = rental ford POS = mental anguish = loss of money and jacked up insurance premiums.

Uneducated = rear tires too narrow = less grip in back = more chance of rotating and oversteer = crash when driving too fast for conditions.

Would have cost less to buy a beater Civic and drive that in the rain.
Would have cost less to buy new tires before their bald.

Doesn't cost anything to learn on the Tire and Wheel forum what size to use in the rear.

Doesn't cost anything to slow down in the rain when driving on inappropriately sized tires that are balding.

But I didn't see any of these epiphanies come from the OP.
Even if you accept that it's your fault... nothing changes unless you figure out what you could have done to prevent it.

except I think the ticket was a low blow.

Why hire a laywer unless it is to fight the ticket. You cannot make money from an insurance claim when it is your own fault or a single car accident, which this was. You can have medical bills paid for if you have that coverage (medpay/PIP) but cannot collect pain/suffering/anguish unless someone else is found to be liable for the loss. As for the ticket, basic speed law usually is "speed too fast for conditions), you don't have to be speeding, just have to do something like this and they can say you were going too fast for the given conditions. Good luck, at least you walked away.

first of all, don't let the insurance company pay for the damage. tell them to write you a check for the car. I had a Porsche Boxster before my S and I crashed it, the body shop claimed it was totaled and I got $26.500 check from my insurance company where it was only worth $21.000 max. (my friend with 20k less milage same year got $21.500 for his car from CarMax) I say get the check, get another S, and put te rest of the money on mods.

BTW: thank god you are alive... that looks really bad.
