Default Bad Leather

I had my new S2000 delivered with bad leather on the passenger side door; the perforated piece under and behind the door handle is sort of crinkly or orange peel in appearance. Unacceptable in a $30K+ car. Didn't notice it till 200 miles because I was always staring at the tach. Anyone else out there have this problem when new? Dealer has agreed to "look at it". Otherwise the RedMenace has been (more than) perfect.

I have the same issue with my driver's side door -- haven't brought it up with the dealer yet.

Please let us know how it goes -- I figured I would point it out when I take it in for the 1st oil change -- I actually have a couple of things to point out.

Not that it would matter much. The seat faces and steering wheel are the only leather that comes in the S2000. The seat backs, shift boot, and door inserts are vinyl.

Guys, that's not bad leather. What you're seeing is the natural grain and pattern. Most leather has this hidden -- covered over with paint and fillers, largely to make the leather look more like vinyl, which is what consumers are used to these days.

Wrinkles and patterns are quite common in good leather, actually, and these things are not a sign of poor quality. That's not to say that the Honda leather is great. It's not. In fact most car leathers, including the vaunted Connally hides used in Jaguars and the like, is acutally second grade.

The door panels are not leather. As was said earlier, only the seat fronts and steering wheel. Unless of course you have purchased some of Rick's accessories.

I'm not sure about the door panel inserts, but I believe the center arm rest was also found to be leather.

I disagree, my center armrest appears to be vinyl. Go look feel and most important smell. Leather has a smell you can not miss.
Mine looks and smells just like the perforated leather center console cover I purchased from Rick.

It was Rick that reported a long time ago that the center armrest was leather. Many thought it was Vinyl and wanted him to produce a leather one. As it turned out it wasn't needed. I don't see why that would change for 2001.

On the door panel inserts it appears to me that the smooth portion is some sort of vinyl, but the perf section looks like leather to me.
