Default Bad Misshift

Last night i was getting on the freeway on ramp and i was at around 8k in 3rd. I tryed shifting into 4th but stupidly and acidently shifted into second for a split second i dont think i even caught it, but aparently i did. My car did start today in the morning but was working fine last night with a slight rough idle. I had to towed to Acura and they got me at $800 just to take the block apart and find the problem. They are then going to send my head to another shop and get it fixed. Could i have gone to a private mechanic to get this done? I know the guys at Acura well and i know they will do a good job but for an expensive cost. If it is really bad what do you guys suggest on a rebuild.

Wow!

Everysince I posted in the NY forum about my mis-shift 2 weeks ago,
It seems like this topic is coming up everywhere now! That is really REALLY weird.

Hope everything works out for you.

Keep us Updated.

BTW: A complete head from hardtopguy.com cost $2289.59 + Shipping. Seems like you'll be paying more then that allready.

If it's running rough, there is probably a bent valve or something similar. I've had this problem in the past and ended up fixing it myself with some help from a machine shop (Joe Alaniz). The dealer is going to charge you and arm and a leg to fix it. Get a private shop to remove the head, take the head to Alaniz http://www.alaniztechnologies.com and have the shop install the head after Joe checks it out.

Wait a sec...the Acura dealer charged you $800 to take it apart, then called you back after and said they got it to run? Did they do any diagnostic? Or did they just push the start button and say, "Hey, it's working!" ?? What you really need to have done is a compression test to see which cylinders are giving you problems. Once you have that information, move to removing the head from the block and inspecting the block, pistons, valves, seats, head, etc. Then you'll be able to make a better decision about what you need to do and who should do it.

Just curious, did your check engine light (CEL) ever come on?
