Gearing. If you both were in top gear at 60 and raced you would kill him.
sorry. not going to happen. corvette will chew us up and spit us out and not floss afterwards.

personally im getting 25.2mpg lifetime at 75% freeway with lots of topless action... beating EPA rating so i cant complain

although the vette's may be rated at 18/28mpg, i highly doubt that many will see the city figure. Don't forget that vette's also have a "skip-shift" feature that forces a shift from 1st to 4th if you don't rev hard enough in the interest of fuel economy.

I'd bet money that that EPA city figure came with the use of the skip shift feature.

As a sidenote, I'm currently in the market for an S2k and test drove one that was up for sale by a guy who had two vettes previously - a C4 and a C5 Pace Car that was driven by Dave Hill. He claimed that he got around 14-15 mpg in the city but on the hwy he did indeed see as much as 30mpg.

I averaged 22mpg in my daily driving C5 vette, with the skip-shift disabled, not bad! That was not much highway, unless you count sitting standstill in rush hour on a highway.

Like others said, they are geared much taller than an S. At 75mph you are still doing less than 2000rpms.

YMMV, as they say.

For the record, I don't think the RX8 gets anywhere near it's claimed mpg, I've heard many saying low teens. I'm doing low 20's in my S. If you're getting better, you're missing out!! How can you resist VTEC? Then again I do have a daily driver civic, which helps save gas during the more mundane driving duties.

How does a 06 z06 505hp vette get 16/26 mpg, the 400hp vette getting 18/26 and our s2k getting 20/26 and 20/25 wit a 2.0L I-4?....my uncle just got a vette and i was looking up info...man its hard to believe how good mpg the vette gets with that much hp and motor size! also the rx8 gets 18/24...haha man thats horrible
EPA numbers are always off on hondas. particularly because we get better mileage once the engine breaks in after several thousand miles. hondas are notorious for that for the most part. so, take EPA ratings with a grain of salt.

look at real world numbers, and you'll see we get way better gas mileage than the Z06. also, part of the reason they get the mileage they do is because of their utterly tall and useless 6th gear. in fact, it's so tall, they can't even accelerate with it. Top speed on a Z06 is obtained in 5th gear. when they shift to 6th the car actually slows down.

actually no. he's right. try it. the Z06 can't even barely accelerate in 6th gear. i know, i've done it first hand. 6th gear roll on = S2k for the win.

wow! synthetic oil gets you better fuel efficiency? i just mix premium shell gas and premium chevron gas... somehow it gets me an extra 3 mpg... i'll try that with synthetic oil... maybe i'll even get up to 30 mpg in my s2... >.<
no synthetic won't get you better fuel economy. that's a common fallicy. LOW viscosity can eke out maybe an extra mpg, but it'd be difficult to measure. if you used something with a ridiculously low viscosity, you'd get an extra mpg or two, but you'd potentially damage your engine in the long term.
