Actually, if you compare just the engines, the Z06 gets terrible gas mileage compared to the S2k.
How do you know this, please show me.
the reason the Z06 has such skewed EPA ratings is because of their skip shift feature and their lame tall ass 6th gear.
Who cares if it has a tall 6th gear, isn't that the point?

So far my avg mpg is 23.44. I know several people that own RX8's and they're lucky if they get 19mpg.

Yeah, kinda wish the S2k's had a slightly taller 6th gear - would make for less high rpm crusing when doing 80-90mph.

I wonder why car manufacturer's dont do this. Well Honda kinda did later on with AP2's in that they made 1,2,3,4th gears shorter for better accel. and made 5th and 6th lower, for lower crusing rpms.

At the end of the day, you really have to give credit to something that can make 400 ft-lbs of toruq (C6) and get around 28mpg on the hwy (hopefully this also happens in REAL world instead of just in EPA testing), but from what I've read people with C6's easily get around 26mpg at 80-90mph crusing on the interstate.

how do I know? the reason the Z06 gets the mileage it does is because of the ridiculously tall 6th gear. if you need further clarification of this, see how stuff works.com. GM has openly used tall ass 6th gears for their LT/LS engine cars to help improve their gas mileage.

so, take away the gears/gearing and the engine doesn't get good mileage.

you're giving credit to the wrong thing. the engine deserves zero credit for the mileage it gets. it's the gear ratios that deserve all the credit.

i dont understand why people praise this engine for gas mileage vs the power it makes, when the mileage it makes has almost nothing to do with the engine itself... It's no modern miracle, or some marvel of technology. They use a tall ass gear, plain and simple. that's it. people act like it should win a nobel prize or something.
