I make a lot of long trip in the summer and have watched carefully. The best I can say is once it gets down to 3 bars it is not linear......

There is no direct correlation between number of bars and gallons of fuel, there's been enough discussion here about erratic fuel gauge behavior I think to prove that.

I'm surprised by all you folks who routinely run your fuel down to the last few gallons before filling up. Maybe it's because I'm from the northeast where it gets very cold in the winter, but I was always told (during winter) not to let my tank go too far below half-full, because water can condense in the tank and contribute to rough running from the engine. Also any build-up of "gunk" in your tank is more likely to be drawn into the fuel intake if you're draining the bottom of the tank. Or maybe I just don't like to run out of gas

I'm averaging about 27 MPG in mixed driving, you can tell that I'm not VTECing on a daily basis!

If y'all want to track your mileage and have a Palm organizer, I've been using this for the last few months... http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftw...801&prodID=7730

Makes recordkeeping very easy.

Well, that's why I only buy Amoco Ultimate for my S... Of course I may be biased, but since I know what goes into making the stuff and how it differes from the other "premium" fuels...

Well, I have filled my tank 6 times and here is the best fit liner equation:

#gallons left = 0.5667*bars + 2.0844

I have basically added gasoline while at half or more.

But if what everybody says is true (2 gallons left at 0 bars), then this equation is rather accurate with just a few data points.

BTW, My overall gas mileage at 737 miles is 25.6 MPG.
